It is extremely important to correctly assess what are the tutoring and training need of the student before the tutoring begins. I am very happy to come out and spend time with the student and / or parents to understand what the needs are. My lessons are all individually planned so I need to have a thorough understanding of the student's needs and perceived strengths and weaknesses. I have to find out what course or topic areas are giving the student the most trouble. I also have to find out what areas of the course or topic that the student has mastered well. With this information, I can put together a list of major concepts and formulas to cover during the tutoring session and also select problems that require various application of the those concepts and formulas.

I believe that is crucial to conduct a thorough needs assessment before planning a tutoring sessions. The success of my tutoring has been the result of guiding the student through problems that utilize the concepts that the student needs the most help with.
